“One of the best things about moving to Dobbs Ferry 3 years ago was discovering the Old Croton Aqueduct.” That is what Peter Soboroff said as he handed a check for $2,570 to Mavis Cain, FOCA president. The donation, raised through GoFundMe. is designated for the education project in the restored Keeper's House.
When Peter planned his second annual Father’s Day marathon run, for the New York Cat Hospital, he came up with the idea of linking with GoFundMe, thus alerting his friends and neighbors about the project, In just one month after the announcement, 33 donors gave $2,570 - some giving in gratitude for Peter’s care of their cats and some giving because they love the trail.
Despite it being a hazy, hot and humid day, Peter ran a full 29 miles from the Croton Dam to Van Cortlandt Park. Those pesky detours on the trail added the extra 3 miles. After wiping the sweat from his brow, Peter said, “It was a very rewarding experience.” Mavis added, "It was a very rewarding experience for the Friends!”
The whole idea was so generous and creative. It will inspire other trail lovers to come up with new ideas.
Thank You, Peter! You have won your 26 mile certificate ( maybe to display at your hospital,) and you will wear the 26 mile badge with pride. Next year, when you do the New York City part of the trail, you’ll win the 41 mile badge!
