The Friends sadly announce the passing of Mavis Cain, our longtime President since 2003, who resigned earlier this year at the hearty age of 96. Mavis served the Aqueduct trail community and the Friends with enthusiasm and purpose.
Many walkers remember Mavis first approaching them on the trail - and several eventually sat on the Friends’ Board! She walked the trail every day, and skied it in winter. Whether leading tours or entertaining crowds at her famous house parties, Mavis was dedicated to public service. She is deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct, P.O. Box 182, Hasting on Hudson, New York 10706.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 26th, at 11:00am, at Zion Episcopal Church, 55 Cedar Street, Dobbs Ferry, NY. Please see Mavis’ full obituary here.
