A Guided Walk on the Northern Portion of the trail

Saturday, July 30, 2022 - 9:30am

A celebratory and informative walk along the Northern section of the trail, beginning in Ossining and ending in the Town of Cortlandt.

View the results of what neighbors, volunteers and the Friends of the OCA have done to tend the trail. See a wildflower meadow, newly restored stone walls, and native plants and trees flourishing along the trail.

Meet some involved neighbors, professional stone mason George Cabrera and his crew and Site Manager of the OCA, Steve Oakes.

Three miles total, should take no more than 2 hours.

Led by Naturalists Diane Alden and Daria Gregg.

1. Directions to Gerlach Park, 91 Quaker Bridge Road, Ossining. Enter Quaker Bridge Road from Route 9 in Ossining. Note that you will start out on the Old Albany Post Road – it turns into Quaker Bridge Road right by Gerlach Park. Do not be mis-lead by some GPS systems that take you off Old Albany Post Rd at Fowler Ave. or Reservoir Road —ignore these and continue through the “S” curve – turn right at the sign for Gerlach Park. Parking is available in the large parking lot. Walk up the stairs at the rear of the parking lot that leads to the Aqueduct Trail where you will be greeted by the walk leaders.

2. Alternative for those who may wish to avoid climbing the long stairway: drive along Old Albany Post Rd/Quaker Bridge Road, but turn right onto Fowler Ave, before you get to Gerlach Park. Drive to the very top and turn left at the end and park on the grass to your right. The Aqueduct Trail can be found on the left side of the road. Someone will greet you at this site too.
