Aqueduct Milestone

As of now, we have 29 people who have earned certificates and patches from the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct’s Milers Program. 

And there are quite a few others who are “working on it.”  Some of these milers  have become some of our most active docents.  

One of them said to us that she and her husband “fell in love” with the trail as they earned their patches.  Being a docent is a way to share that love.

New Displays at the Keeper's House

Have you stopped by the Keeper's House recently?

We have two new displays!

One is an audio program about the Catskill Water system, with stories from the point of view of its builders and surrounding landowners.

The other is an interactive map of the Westchester portion of the Old Croton Aqueduct with pop-up details about points of interest along the trail.

Visit us Saturdays and Sundays 10am-4pm.

Self-Guided walks by Carlos Gee

Friends member and avid trail walked Carlos Gee has an excellent blog, SCENES FROM THE TRAIL, where he provides heavily-illustrated guides to his walks in the new York and New Jersey region. He was kind enough to allow us to copy his walks onto this website, so you can follow along on his adventure to walk the entire length of the Westchester section of the Old Croton Aqueduct trail (and earn a patch in the process.

Water Resources Art and Poetry Contest

From the DEP of New York:

We are excited to announce the launch of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection’s 31st annual Water Resources Art & Poetry Contest. Second through twelfth grade students attending New York City and East or West of Hudson Watershed public, independent, charter or parochial schools or home-schooled students are invited to create original art and compose poetry that reflect an appreciation for our shared water resources. Entries will be accepted online from now until Wednesday, March 8, 2017.
