On July 16, a talented group of performers recruited by the Friends, told stories, sang songs, demonstrated martial arts, described their own group activities and told of their relationship with the Aqueduct. The event was attended by over a hundred local residents.

The festival was planned to expand the outreach of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct and to encourage knowledge and appreciation of the Trail. “Aqueduct Day in Yonkers” was supported by funding from the New York Parks and Trails Partnership.

One of the highlights of the day was a personal account of how the discovery of the beauty of the Aqueduct in Yonkers changed his life. A mentor encouraged him to expand his vision through the understanding of nature and its importance to our spiritual development. This charming speaker went on to a successful career with the NFL.

A young poet, Krystal Raine Ivey read her own poetry – urging us all to cut down on the use of plastic! Such an important message from a 13-year-old.

Eve Soto’s songs inspired participation … and some energetic dancing.

The event fulfilled our hopes of spreading appreciation of the trail by all ages.
