Meet at 143 West 105th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues (103rd Street stop on the #1 Train). Follow the path of the Old Croton Aqueduct from 105tth Street and Amsterdam to the High Bridge at 173rrd Street and the Harlem River. Along the way, you’ll discover structures that controlled the flow of water, why some apartment buildings’ sides are angled curiously, and learn how the engineers got water to flow through a 16-block-long valley, plus more. Ending location at the High Bridge at 173rd Street, inside Highbridge Park. Optional post-walk activity: go to Coogan’s at Broadway and 169th Street for lunch. Each walk will be about 3 hours.
