with Steve Duncan
Until the 20th century, Tibbetts Brook ran above ground through the Bronx. Van Cortland Park's pond was originally constructed as a mill pond along Tibbetts Brook by Jacobus van Cortlandt in 1699. South of the park, the old stream flows into a magnificent sewer tunnel that runs underneath Broadway in the Bronx. For this group exploration with Steve Duncan, come with your knowledge of NY history and a bright flashlight if you have one. We will not go underground but we will look down manhole covers along the way to try to catch a glimpse of the brook.
