Ramble along the Riverwalk and Aqueduct Trails past the Estates of Gilded Age Millionaires

Sunday, October 29, 2017 - 10:00am

Joint walk with WTA (co-leader Ellie Carren)

Easy 5+ mile loop walk along the Riverwalk and Aqueduct Trails past historic estates and structures, including Lyndhurst (with its recently restored historic bowling alley and the skeletal remains of a massive Lord & Burnham conservatory). Enjoy sweeping Hudson River views that extend from New York City to the work-in-progress Tappan Zee Bridge and beyond.

We begin at the Riverwalk in Tarrytown at the western-most end of Van Wart Avenue, which (along with Paulding Avenue) begins at Route 9 (Broadway) just south of 287 and north of the Shames JCC and the Hilton DoubleTree). Free on-street parking is available.

The walk continues to the Farmer’s Market on Irvington’s Main Street (adjacent to the Main Street School at 85 Main Street), which will provide excellent opportunities to shop for lunch).

We return by the same route, with minor variations. The MTA Hudson Line Tarrytown Station is 1.7 miles uphill (40 or 9 minutes by foot or by taxi, respectively, from the start of the walk. For those who wish to get back by train from Irvington, the Irvington Train Station is .5 miles west (downhill) from the Farmer’s Market.
