Free, easy 4-mile loop beginning and ending at Main Street & Aqueduct Lane in Irvington. Enjoy the mostly level, shaded walk in one of the most storied sections of the Aqueduct. Learn about the remarkable Villa Lewaro, the estate of Madam CJ Walker, the African-American entrepreneur who was America’s first female self-made millionaire. Walk the grounds of Lyndhurst Mansion, country home of notorious robber baron, Jay Gould and location site for HBO’s “The Gilded Age.” Along the way, we will talk about the history of the Aqueduct, the origins of the village of Irvington and Washington Irving’s fascinating connection with the village.

Four miles total, the walk is approximately 2 hours.

Meet at 11:00 in front of Main Street School at Main Street & N. Aqueduct Lane in Irvington.

Directions -

Train: Metro-North Hudson Line stops at Irvington. From the train station, walk up Main Street to Aqueduct Lane.

Driving: navigate to Main St. & S. Aqueduct Lane, Irvington, NY.

Parking: street parking on Main St. is limited to 2 hours. There is additional 6 hour parking on the side streets.

Required: Pre-registration (limited number). Walk will be rescheduled in the event of rain.
