Approximately 6 miles, 5 hours
If you have been thinking of walking the 26 miles of the Old Croton Aqueduct (OCA) in Westchester and don’t know how to start, or don’t want to do it alone, this may be your opportunity. Over the next several weeks, there will be five walks that together will cover the 26 miles of the OCA trail in Westchester. Each walk will cover a segment of the trail ranging in distance from between 3 to 6 miles; they will be held on Sundays beginning in May and ending in July as follows: 5/18, 6/1, 6/15, 6/22 & 7/13. In the event of inclement weather, alternate dates will be offered. The Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct awards a Patch and a Certificate to anyone who completes the entire 26 miles of the OCA trail in Westchester. If you are aiming for your patch, please sign up for all 5 walks as they are published on the website to avoid disappointment. Patches and certificates are free to members of the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct.
The Details: Terrain will be mostly level with some moderate elevation changes, there will be roots and rocks; please wear appropriate footwear. Please bring lunch, snacks and water – there will be rest stops along the way. Rest rooms may not be immediately available on some segments. Important Note: These are one-way walks. Plan accordingly if you will need to return to your starting point. Metro-North is available near the start and end of each walk.
