As part of the fourth annual New York State-wide I Love My Park Day, the Friends are hosting an Old Croton Aqueduct Trail improvement day in both northern and southern locations along the Aqueduct. These events are being held in collaboration with the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Parks & Trails NY. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn to identify and remove invasive species along the trail, to pick up trash and to enjoy the camaraderie of friends and neighbors.


IN CROTON ON HUDSON
When: 9:30am - 3pm
Where: On the trail at the Croton Gorge Unique Area (look for white canopy)
Park: On Quaker Bridge Rd, Croton on Hudson, between houses #124 & #99
Bring: Lunch! Consider wearing long pants, a hat and a long sleeved shirt
Perks: Water, coffee, snacks, tools, gloves, I Love My Park tee shirts & bug stuff
Special Event: prizes will be awarded during the afternoon break

Volunteers will be preserving trees and native plants by removing invasive species, cutting tree-strangling vines, restoring some areas with native plants and clearing brush and litter. Instruction will be offered on plant identification as well as on vine cutting and plant removal techniques. Experienced leaders, naturalists, certified arborists and State Parks crew members will work alongside the volunteers to provide expert guidance throughout the day. Tasks are available for all skill levels and all ages, from garlic mustard pulling to vine lopping – please join us and bring family, friends and neighbors.

Bring: Friends and neighbors. Although tools will be provided, you are welcome to bring your own loppers & gloves. Consider wearing long pants, a hat and a long sleeved shirt.

Walk the Old Croton Aqueduct trail with local naturalist to learn of flora and fauna along the trail, identify and remove invasive species and pick up any trash.
